The Truth

I was trying to figure out how to make a watermark or stamp in Photo Shop tonight and was letting the girls go wild in the bath. I could hear that they were making a mess but couldn't pull myself away from the computer. When I finally did make it in there, they had not only splashed watter all over the place but they had lined up all the water book characters along the top tile. I wasn't all that concerned about the water (it's the price you pay to get to play on the computer) but I was concerned about the tub toys. How did they get up there, it's a long way up.

Me: "Did you jump up there? You know you aren't supposed to jump in the tub."
Girls: "No"
Me: "Did you stand on the side?"
Girls: "No"
Avery: "We just pushed them up there."
Me: "Reeeallly."

All this time Kyndra was staring at me. I have to mention that my voice is gone, I sound like a 90 year old smoker, and I think I sound more gruff than I really feel.

Kyndra: "I know that you have to tell the truth."
Me: speechlessly staring
Kyndra: "I stood on the side."
Me: "Okay, thank you for telling me the truth, I am proud of you. Avery, did you just lie to me?"
Avery: "No, I told you part of the truth."
Me: "You have to tell me all of the truth all of the time, not just the parts you want to tell me."
Avery: boo hoo (I must have pushed the cry button because she immediately started whaling)

I truly wasn't mad! Seriously! Kyndra is learning about telling the truth and safety in school and AJ needs to learn it too! I'm glad it happened over a small thing and not a big thing. It took me awhile to calm her down and I tried to reassure her that I won't be mad at her no matter what if she tells the truth. I have been tested on this a couple of times with Kyndra and it's hard not to react when they break something, or do something they know better not to do, but that trust is so important! Well, maybe next time I won't make her cry when I'm trying to teach her a lesson (there's always next time).

Those little white lies. So hard for kids to resist, but you have such great girls and you teach them such valuable lessons that later in life become their foundation. UR an Awesome Mom!

My girls are to the point where they have 'caught' ME in little white lies. Oh, such a learning experience that is -FOR ME. It is amazing what they can pick up on. I have also heard my girls using tones, or words that I don't like the sound of...it is a reality check for me. I love the tub...thought you had been doing some stenciling at first. :-)
