I'm freaking out! I have been researching buying a new camera for about a year now. That's right...a year! In February of 07 we had the opportunity to attend a David Pogue workshop. If you don't know about David Pogue, you might enjoy him. Anyway, he convinced both Ronda and I that we needed a Nikon D40. Ronda who isn't a shopper but isn't afraid to buy something she needs went ahead and got one. I hemmed and hawed, read reviews, talked to Joe's sister, Beth who is a photographer. Turns out that Beth has some autofocus Nikon lenses of their dad's that she isn't using and that I could use for awhile. Luckily, I did enough research to find out that you can't use old AF lenses with the D40 you had to go with the D80. I had my camera picked out! Except....I wanted a small camera to take rafting with us and put in my pocket on hikes and to swim practice, etc, etc, etc. Enter the Pentax Optio W60. It is waterproof, it is dust proof, it is small, it is blue, I even got it a floating strap for when we are on the river. I did it! I actually bought not one but two cameras! I need a Valium! I can't stop writing exclamation points!
All day I have been just giddy about these cameras. We are going to see Beth this weekend so I knew that I would be able to use the AF lenses soon. Yesterday there was a UPS sticker on our door. I was so bummed, I missed him and he was going to return today when I was at work. I was sitting at my desk and I got a call from the receptionist...the UPS delivery guy was at work! He recognized Joe's name and thought he'd take a chance that one of us were at work. Gotta love small towns.
When I go to home today, I went into my old Nikon camera bag to use my manual focus lenses for the time being. As I was carrying out my 70-210 I noticed something funny....two letters on the side of the lens...an A and an F. Yes! My 3 lenses from my Nikon that I got in college when I was studying photography are AF lenses! My new camera can use them! YEE HAW!
These pictures are blurry because I can't sit still. I have been dancing all evening. The girls think I have gone off my rocker. How could I not have known? Well....I'm not quite sure. I got that camera when I was living in Butte working for Senator Max Baucus and my truck got broken into. This is the one I picked out to replace the one of my dad's that was stolen. Maybe I was thinking I would get a AF camera someday, when I was a rich and famous photographer, maybe I just didn't know what I was doing. I feel like I just won the lottery! Happy birthdayanniversarymerrychristmasmothersday to me!
