22 Pockets

While here at Thanksgiving, my Mom asked if I had a quilt she could use for her "Cowboy Room."
We looked at my house.
We looked at Ronda's house.
No quilt big enough.

Ronda and I started whispering...and planning...
Would it be possible to make a quilt for Christmas?
My sewing experience is almost non-existent yet Ronda
(my mentor, cheerleader, and hero)
assured me it could be done.

Jeans were our plan and Ronda already (conveniently) had some squares cut out.
I hit the Salvation Army's sale rack and dug through my own drawers.
Two days were spent measuring and cutting.
Next we got to lay it out!

It just kept getting bigger and bigger!
My trusty little Brother and I got to work.
I don't think I have ever sewed that much accumulatively in my life.
I broke thread, needles, and used a few nasty words but most of all I *smiled*
Mom was never going to believe this!
Once it was all together, Ronda and I put together the fill and backing.
We cranked up the music, put on rubber thumb protectors, and started stringing.

Somewhere in here was my Monday Shopping Trip!
I posted about it, but couldn't tell Mom about it.
I couldn't laugh with her about binding, backing, and padding.
It was torture!

This is the binding I picked out.
I actually figured out how to sew it together into one long strip.
Google is an amazing thing.
Do you know how do blind stitch?
Thanks to Ronda, I do too!
Amazing fact: Ronda has been making quilts for over 30 years!
We watched Mama Mia and put on the binding.
Finished! We grinned the entire time!
Before sending it off I printed a picture of the process for each pocket.
22 pockets!
Here is the finished product in The Cowboy Room (pictures in pockets and all)
sent via e-mail by Mom and Dad.

This was a gift to all of us, thank you Ronda for making sure it could be done!

Kudos!!! I love quilting...and I have a partial quilt much like this started...only thing is, sewing denim is hard on needles...and patience. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. If you ever want to pull an all nighter, give me a call. I'm in.

If I had to pick one 'favorite' picture out of the 22, it would be the close-up of your hands, Stacy. I can hear the excitement and laughter (oh yes, I can hear some 'words', too) with each stitch. Thank you, Stacy! Thank You, Ronda! The Cowboy Room is happy.

Way to go...I knew you would pull it off. I have a western room and a few others that could use a quilt, now that you have your sewing machine warmed up.
