Bagels

Bagels are my very favorite thing. I really don't have cravings for food in particular, or a favorite dinner, or restaurant, but I love bagels. I have started every day with a bagel for as long as I can remember. I tried to go on the no-carb diet and ate eggs for breakfast for a couple of months....then I caved and went back to eating my bagels with melted Tillamook cheese for breakfast. This is my comfort food, my trusty friend.

When I was little my Grandma and Grandpa on my dad's side lived in Connecticut. In the morning Grandpa would go to the Bagel Factory in his zooms (pj's) and get fresh, REAL bagels, not the bread shaped in a O kind we get her in Eastern Oregon. I had this grand picture in my head of this huge factory pumping out fresh bagels to waiting customers. It didn't seem strange that he went in his zooms, or dawn on me that he probably didn't even get out of the car. I didn't realize he was was probably going to a small drive-through store similar to Dunkin' Donuts until I was an adult. At their house we ate the bagels fresh, un-toasted, with butter and cream cheese and sometimes even locks. Well, Dad and Grandpa would eat the locks, I wasn't a very adventuresome eater. When they would come visit us in Montana they would bring suitcases of bagels from the Bagel Factory that we would load into our freezer to enjoy for months afterward.

I live in a town now that has no Bagel Factory, or Bagels on Broadway, or Big Sky Bagels.....just grocery store bagels. I was there loading up my supply today during my lunch break and they only had these little bakery bags that only fit 3 bagels. I buy them a dozen at a time, every week. It just doesn't seem right that I can't load up a big bag full of bagels. I have to fill 4 little bakery bags with 3 bagels apiece and tie them off so they don't dump out. Man it's frustrating! (Yes, there probably is a pill for that but I'm not on it!)

If this is all I have to complain about it is a good day! Just why do they have to mess with my bagel!
