It seemed as though kids were in their costumes from sun-up to sun-down this year. We left the house and there was frost on the ground, and they had their costumes on. I picked K up for school and she had her costume on. I stopped by her party and that hot costume was still on! Violin lessons....yep, in the costumes. Then off to our annual Main Street Trick-or-Treat. I guess they did take them off for awhile when eating a warm dinner but before long they were back on as we headed out to our block.
I love our family trick-or-treating with the Thornburgs on our block, it's my favorite time of the day. We have only taken the kids on our small cul-de-sac...ever, and it is just perfect. We start with Ms. T at the end of the street. She waits for our kiddos and turns the light off after we leave (last year we weren't even off her sidewalk yet). Then on to the "Snap-on Guy's" house (yes, I do know his real name), and around our small street. Along the way we ran into the only other neighbors with small kids on the street, they left their basket of candy on their steps, we told them to go ahead into our house and help themselves if we weren't home yet. There aren't many places in the world where there are only 3 trick-or-treaters at your door total. Not many places where your neighbor leaves their candy on the front step, or where the kids fill their buckets in just 11 houses. I love our street, our neighbors, our friends. I am sure my sister enjoyed her 300+ halloweeners in Japan but I think our night was just right.
