Today's conversation

Daughter: Mama, will your tattoos ever come off?
Mother: Someday. I'll have to have a doctor take them off.
Daughter: Will it hurt?
Mother: Yes, very badly.
Daughter: How will he take them off?
Mother: I think they sort of burn them off.
Daughter: (making a face) When I am a mama I'll never have a real tattoo.
Mother: I hope you do make better decisions than I did when I was young.
Daughter: Like when you were 15 or something?
Mother: Or something. I know, for my 40th birthday that is what I want for my present.
Daughter: Not until after your birthday party, though.
Mother: You are right. I guess it can wait until after the party.

I have always thought I'd make them watch me get my tattoos removed so they never, ever want to get any. Maybe I won't have to go to that extreme. Maybe it is possible for them to learn from my mistakes if we talk about them enough. Maybe....

If we didn't have mistakes...we wouldn't be "us."

I pray all the time that my children will not make the same decisions I have... but... without some of those decisions/choices... they may not have been here.

Hmmm...

Very interesting conversation...
You are doing a great job of keeping the line of communication open with your girls. It may be good for them to see the removal process in a few years.

Yikes, I don't even won't to see the removal process. Can't you just come home with an extra big bandage or something..... I know I'm a baby.

I love this, I was just thinking about this idea yesterday...making sure that I tell my boys about my mistakes so they too can learn from them...and hopefully not repeat them!!!
