Lucky Eyes

Spring Break is almost upon us and this year marks the 6th anniversary of our eye surgery. Joe and I had laser surgery on our eyes at the same time during spring break 5 months before we got married. I still maliciously giggle when thinking about this story. Joe has sensitive eyes and is a super crazy blinker when things get near them. Unlike me, he never wore contact lenses so he wasn't used to things poking his eyeball. When they were flipping the flap back over....you guessed it, he blinked! There was stuff under his "flap" that needed to be washed out. It was one thing to have them cut your eyeball open once when you didn't know what to expect and another thing altogether knowing what was coming. The next day we had to go back up and they loaded him up on a double dose of valium to try and calm his nervous eyes. It worked, luckily. The funny part about this whole story is that my parents took us to dinner afterwards and Joe ordered a BIG beer, you know the ones in the tall, fat mugs. Half way through his beer he started talking like nobody has ever heard him talk before or since. My parents and I were giggling through the night at his expense (sorry Joe) and with relief that it was over.

We are so lucky: lucky my parents were there to take care of us, lucky we can see when we swim, lucky to be able to raft and not worry about splashed up glasses, lucky for good doctors, lucky to be able to see the moon and stars, lucky for valium, lucky to have had that experience together.

Lucky to be so happy......happy to be so lucky!

What a great picture of both of your eyes. I love the banner picture of the girls above because you can see Joe in Avery and Stacy in Kyndra. What an adventure to have had that procedure done on your eyes! I would have liked to hear Joe talk "on valium"! We are lucky to have you as friends!!
