Craft-Happy Space

Just thinking of my recent craft room make over makes me smile!  I have been looking forward to sharing what we did over the last few weeks.  I've been stuck on a name for this post tho...Crafty Space+Happy Space...it keeps coming out in my mind as Crappy Space!  Its far from a crappy space...its our new craft room and we are already enjoying it.

Over Easter I spent some time with Heather who is always painting, remodeling, and fixing her house.  Then I spent the night at my cousin Tina's house who also is a wiz at interior decorating.  I got the bug...the bug to do have a project...to do something with my hands and my house.

We started with the paint...RED of course!

Next came the wall flowers...fun and whimsical were my goal.
When they weren't helping they were "nesting"...
 and supervising.
We put together 8 storage containers for supplies.
Thanks to my Grandpa Dolderer's toolbox I even had 3 screwdrivers
(none of which are pink thank you very much).
The girls's contribution to the wall consisted of Avery's butterfly,

 and Kyndra's bird.
Before I was even done with the counter tops or painting the girls were crafting.
Speaking of counters...in the spirit of full disclosure I must admit that I sort of mis-measured the length of the counter top needed for the long wall.  I was off by almost 1.5 inches!  Lucky for me I live next door to a wonderful wood craftsman who cut it to fit just perfectly.
Their first project was to make window hangings to keep the birds from breaking their necks on this big entrance window.
Their artwork will eventually go on the red wall.
Here it is...I love it!  I go in there to just hang out and smile at the walls.
Time to get crafty!

Note to self

Dear Self...
Remember when you put potato peels down the garbage disposal?
Yes, well, artichoke leaves are similar...but worse, to put down the drain.
It went like this...
eewww!
eewww!
eewww!
eewww!
eewww!
eewww!
JOE!
JOE!
Joe?
Joe...
eewww!

Fire Drill

We had a fire drill today.  It wasn't a planned event.  The girls were in the middle of playing "let's pretend" and I overheard a "let's pretend that the house is on fire."

Me:  Do you know what to do if the house really is on fire?
Kyndra:  No
Avery:  No
Me:  I want you to jump out your window!
Girls: WOAH!  COOL!

I went on to show them how to get the stick out of the runner,  unlock the window, and push it open.  Then I went about my business of laundry or whatever I was doing.  Next thing I know, Kyndra comes to ask if they could "practice" jumping out the window.  "Sure, give me a sec to get my shoes on."  I go outside and there is Avery, hanging out the window.  I plopped her back up on her bum and ran for my camera.
Kyndra's turn...Badge went first

Weekend Project

If you give a Travis a ditch witch....
...he'll dig a trench.
Once he digs the trench, he'll lay some pipe.
Once he lays the pipe, he'll attach some sprinkler heads.
Once he attaches the sprinkler heads....he'll hand you the shovel!

If you give a Joe a saws-all....well, I guess that's a later post, I don't have any pictures of the de-sheet rocked wall downstairs.

This was my Mother's Day present.
Underground sprinklers!
If you had asked me Friday night what our yard would look like on Monday I couldn't have answered...my head was in a paper bag breathing deeply.
Miraculously, after two days of hard work, the trenches are covered and the water is flowing.
Thank you Travis, you are incredibly talented.
Thank you Joe, you are amazing!
This was a perfect way to spend Mother's Day

Clean Art

This window painting hangs above the basement stairway.
I chuck my dirty dish rags over the kitchen/living room wall.
This is what I get for being lazy.
Clean Art.

I have lots of great pictures on the way: pumpkins, haircuts, crafts, new friends, etc. But first I have to get out a long stick!
